The APP World Tour announces its complete schedule of Stand Up Paddle Racing Events for the 2021 season. This year’s line up promises to deliver World Class SUP racing action and provide a thrilling World Championship Tour to challenge global athletes to compete at their highest level. Get ready for lift off!
2021 APP World SUP Racing Tour: Hawaii & Europe
The APP World Tour will begin the 2021 championship season with world class racing in October on the Hawaiian Islands. The APP’s first 2021 event features the Hawaiian Grand Slam with two spectacular downwind races and two stand up paddle sprint races through the surf. This exciting first let of the Tour will launch the 2021 SUP racing season at the heart of the sport of paddling racing’s birthplace.
Next, the APP Tour will take a trip across two oceans to land in Europe. Here, they will host an additional two high profile stops to wrap up the the world championships including an extraordinary Finals event to be held in February 2022.
World Tour in Europe: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria & Paris, France
The second leg of the tour is combined with the APP World Surfing Tour’s stop in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Together, in Gran Canaria, there promises to be a comprehensive showcase of all sides of the APP World Championship Tour’s competition. The world’s best stand up paddle racers and surfers all in one location for an iconic event!
This 2nd European leg will then continue in Paris, France for the APP’s annual pilgrimage to the historic Paris SUP Open on the River Seine for the first weekend of December. Here is the full line up:
Hawaiian Grand Slam Race 1: Maui (Maliko Downwind & Ho’okipa Sprints): 14th – 17th October
Hawaiian Grand Slam, Race 2: (Maui to Molokai Downwind & Oahu Surf Sprints): 16th – 24th October
Gran Canaria Pro-Am, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain: 19th – 21st November
Paris SUP Open, France: 3rd – 5th December
World Championship Tour Finals: 10th – 12th February (2022)
APP Offers Discard for Athletes to Strategize Competition
For 2021, the APP athletes will be allowed to discard one distance and one sprint racing result for the season to calculate their overall placement. This means that each of their best four distances and best four sprints will determine the overall ranking. Strategy as well as speed will be in the mix this season!
The 2021 APP World Tour Racing Season is also split into three defined legs to ensure that every athlete will be able to follow the SUP Racing Tour through in its entirety. Athletes and spectators will benefit from one of the APP World Tour’s most diverse line up of events yet.
Downwind Paddling & Surf Sprints on 2021 World Tour
With a renewed focus on downwind paddling, the return of celebrated Surf Sprint Racing Courses plus the introduction of new venues, the 2021 APP World Tour will not disappoint. In fact, the APP sees 2021 as an opportunity to reignite the passion of downwind paddling and sprint racing through the surf to deliver a World Class Sports Showcase to their global audiences through live and post produced broadcasts.
City Paddle Festivals create long term partnerships
A few of the APP’s Host Venues on the provisional schedule are not included in the final line up for 2021 due to local and international restrictions. However, these venues are all stepping up for multi-year commitments from 2022 forward. This includes: Valencia (Spain), London (UK), Zug (Switzerland), Osaka (Japan) and San Diego (USA). All of these major cities opted to hold off until the 2022 season due to the high profile nature of each venue and the City Paddle Festival build out plans. Stay tuned for a major announcement of the 2022 schedule due in October of this year.
For 2022, the City Paddle Festivals is to be back in full force. The APP will host exciting new venues along with the return of popular historic cities such as Osaka and London. As the World returns to normal, global travel issues will ease and these favored cities will be able to open up for mass public events.
