Barbados: land of pristine, warm sands, turquoise blue water, flights of sea turtles, and firing surf. It is also the home of the legendary surf break, Soup Bowls on the eastern coast of this tiny, vibrant island. Gorgeous, edgy and remote, the APP World Tour – in collaboration with the Barbados Tourism Bureau – will make this their next stop on the APP World Surfing Tour on November 11th – 16th, 2019.
Standup Journal will bring you coverage via LIVE FEED on our Facebook Page on those dates.
November 9th at Pebbles Beach on Carlisle Bay: Meet the Pros
The APP World Tour action starts this Saturday, November 9th at Paddle Barbados when the Pros arrive to offer advice and cheer on first-time paddlers in the pristine waters of Carlisle Bay. All are welcome to this Opening Day event, whether seasoned paddler or beginner, to experience the thrill of stand up paddle boarding!

Soup Bowls venue for APP SUP Surf World Competition
Then, beginning on Monday morning, APP World Tour CEO Tristan Boxford will make the call for 5 days of competition at the iconic Soup Bowls break on the eastern coast of Barbados. This legendary wave, known for its complexity and underwater sea cave, will test the APP World Tour athletes in ways no other venue on the competition circuit can.

Men’s Leaders in Close Match Up leading into Soup Bowls
Reigning World Champ Sean Poynter (USA) will be on hand to defend his title, while being chased by the Brazilian wolf pack that includes Luiz Diniz (BRA), Leco Salazar (BRA), Lucas Medeiros (BRA) and Wellington Reiss (BRA) as well as current 2019 rankings leader and powerful Tahitian force of Poenaiki Raioha. It is a stacked field of incredible talent which includes Benoit Carpentier (FRA), Daniel Hughes (USA) and so many more determined surfers vying to take top spots on the podium in Barbados.

Women’s Competition Staking Claims on Future of SUP Surfing
On the women’s side, the competition is equally engorged with supreme talent looking to make Barbados a showcase event. 2019 APP World Tour leader Izzi Gomez (USA) will be fighting off the tenacious Fiona Wylde (USA) who took top honors at Sunset in February 2019 and a close 2nd to Izzi in New York this past September. The heat is ON for Izzi as Soup Bowls will also see ISA World Champion Shakira Westdorp back in the mix. Shak’s legend comes into its own in challenging surf and her 3rd place podium standings in both Sunset and New York make her a fierce contender for the 2019 APP World Title as well.
The Top 3 women are joined by Brazilian powerhouse Aline Adisaka (BRA) who’s presence in New York put people on notice as she – like Fiona – competed in both the surf and racing divisions, and finished well in each. Vania Torres (PER) and 2018 APP World Champ Iballa Moreno (SPA) will also be on hand in Barbados and … the stronger the surf, the better these women like it!
