The Key West Paddle Classic, a premier destination race in Florida, hosts a 12-Mile distance course boasting both an iconic and challenging circumnavigation of the island of Key West, Florida.

The Key West Classic annually guarantees a variety of wind and current. The race is open to several paddle crafts including stand up paddlers, prone paddlers, outrigger, kayak and surfski participants.

The Key West Classic is an opportunity to test your mettle with internationally & nationally renowned racers.  2018 included a wide spread of travelers including, SeyChelle Hattingh (1st Place Women’s SUP), Terrene Black of Australia (2nd Place Women’s SUP), Enzo Bennett from Tahiti (1st Place Men’s SUP) and former Olympian canoeist Larry Cain of Canada (3rd Place Men’s SUP).

Lazy Dog hosts Festive Weekend Party around Event

This event welcomes all local community & visitor paddlers alike. Last year, SUP champ Larry Cain from Ontario, Canada came down to get warm and participate in the fun. Travelers often make this a pit stop on their winter schedule. One need not even participate in the race to join in the party! Be a part of the festive atmosphere & join the party whether you take to the water, or not!

Join Lazy Dog for weekend of entertainment including: Racing, Paddle Clinics, Eco Tours, Happy Hour, Parties, Great Food, Live Music, Spectacular Raffles & More! Paddle around the legendary Island of Key West.

Paddlers can compete individually or team up with friends to enter the 3-Person Stand-Up Relay. There are multiple ways to participate and partake in all the offerings Lazy Dog provides in this full weekend adventure.

Stick around for Sunday FUNday and join the cruise out of Lazy Dogs on a leisurely boat ride and adventure to a secluded sandbar for a festive picnic. It’s a great way to unwind and soak up the weekend’s festivities. Join Lazy Dog for the ride.

Evelyn O'Doherty, editor & publisher of the new Standup Journal 2.0 is a former school teacher gone rogue. She left her career as a teacher in order to spend more time near or on the water after learning to surf turned her life around (upsidedown?). She is a year-round surfer and paddler living on the eastern tip of Long Island in NY who is a certified SUP instructor, seasoned SUP racer and avid longboard surfer. Evelyn was hired as Online Editor to Standup Journal in 2016. Her passion for the project quickly led to her success and eventually taking over the mag herself in Oct. 2018. Today, as editor, publisher and chief bottle washer at Standup Journal, Evelyn keeps her toes wet writing, traveling, paddling, surfing, and learning to foil. You can find her most days paddling out on Gardiner's Bay or surfing Ditch Plains in Montauk, NY.
