Piper’s Paddle Party Picnic – get ready for Crossing for a Cure

Global Partner

Piper is a 10-year-old dynamic young lady who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 4.  Her dad, Travis Suit, discovered hope and inspiration in the healing benefits of salt water for Cystic Fibrosis patients.

After learning to paddle and surf as a natural and fun way of healing for Piper, Travis Suit’s mission expanded in 2013 when he completed his first 75-mile paddle – the Crossing for a Cure – as a personal challenge to raise awareness for the disease.

This endurance paddle, which also served as a demonstration to Piper of how one can overcome life challenges and face fear, has now evolved into a movement that celebrates personal empowerment every year as a fundraiser and group paddle that spans the distance between the Bahamas to Lake Worth, Florida.

Paddle crossing inspires community

“From paddlers to volunteers, to boat captains, this is a monumental effort and it’s amazing to see so many people come together to challenge themselves and each other,” said Suit.

“I love watching people get excited about this and spreading the positive message of making the most out of circumstances we face.”

Leaving in the dead of night to cross from Bimini to Florida is the passage for these paddlers determined to make a difference in the lives of others.

Piper’s Angels Foundation offers awareness through paddling

Suit has since created the Piper’s Angels Foundation which sponsors the Crossing for a Cure each year in June.  This year, on Saturday June 16th, 2018 on Father’s Day weekend, over 75 paddlers and 25 boats will take to the water with the mission of raising $250,000 for families struggling with Cystic Fibrosis.

The video above, produced by Talia Schizzano of Tallymark Productions, is a testament to the community which surrounds Piper and Travis Suit.  The community comes out to play, challenge each other and watch over one another.  Piper’s Paddle Picnic Party is a kick-off for the Crossing for a Cure event and a memorable day as it’s own occasion.

For more information about this special event, check out the Crossing for a Cure website here:  https://www.crossingforacure.com/

You be a part of this supportive paddling community by sponsoring a paddler, offering your donation, or just coming to the beach on the evening of June 16th to cheer them in.

This is one special ride.
