Kalama Kamps:  The finest of flatwater and surf instruction

“I quite honestly, really enjoy teaching people. I have such a passion for paddling that I get great pleasure from sharing it with people.”  – Dave Kalama

Dave Kalama, stand up paddle legend, will be hosting his 7th annual Turks & Caicos Kalama Kamp this upcoming October 7-14th, 2017.  He is partnered with leading adventure outfitter, Big Blue Unlimited.

The Turks & Caicos islands are a premiere paddle boarding destination and one that has proven itself as an idyllic location for the now famous Kalama Kamps.  Dave’s first trip to the islands was in 2010 when he and sports psychologist and Paddle Fit pro John Denney made the journey together.

This trip is Kalama Kamp’s best kept secret.  Being a part of the adventure for the last eight years, we have traveled to many beautiful places.  For sheer variety, Turks and Caiscos may be the prettiest of them all.”  – John Denney

Destination:  Turks & Caicos for flatwater and sup surf conditions

Turks and Caicos provides some of the best beginner waves for the Kalama Kamp crew.  It also  occasionally delivers some of the largest waves they’ve ever seen on retreat.  Denny and Dave are stoked to be in partnership with Big Blue Unlimited which provides amazing paddle board adventures and first class service, customized for your needs.

The six-day Kamp is for people who simply love to be on the water, exploring and experiencing the waterman’s lifestyle, all while learning and having fun.  From beginners to experts, singles and couples (even if one doesn’t paddle!), everyone is welcomed and accommodated in equal measure.

Private one-one-one coaching with stand up paddle king, Dave Kalama is what this waterman’s adventure is all about.

A Day in the Life of Kalama Kamp includes:

Dave reports that each day consists of  “an early morning wave session if possible and, if not, a light beach workout as an alternate plan. Then comes breakfast.  Next, Kampers usually do some intensive paddle technique work until lunch.  Then, there is some type of sup surf if the conditions are good or an amazing adventure paddle through the mangroves, bays and beautiful waterways filled with wildlife.  Each day usually holds a lot of laughter as well.

Each week focuses on proper paddling techniques best used when catching waves or exploring the back country of these stunning islands.  Half days, full days, dawn patrols and sunset paddles maximize each participant’s enjoyment of the stunning ocean that surrounds the islands 600 miles southeast of Miami, Florida.
