In a move that is surely a blow to SIC, Sonni announced this week that she is eager to join the Tiki Team at Starboard and ride the ‘fastest boards’ made in the industy.

Sonni has long been one of the sports top female racers. Her most notable accomplishments include her 3X crown at the legendary 32-mile Molokai to Oahu open water crossing in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Sonni was also crowned champ in the Euro Tour in both 2015 and 2016 as well as winning the prestigious Lost Mills race in Europe last year

This major win by Team Starboard rounds out an already bursting at the seams Starboard Dream Team including top ranked paddlers Connor Baxter, Fiona Wylde, Michael Booth, Zane Schweitzer and other stellar athletes.

“We are excited to welcome Sonni Hönscheid to the Starboard Dream Team,” announced Starboard Founder and Chief Innovator Swein Rasmussen on Monday.

“Her special abilities as an artist and a paddler make her a special partner for our brand.”

Equally talented off the water, Sonni has held two highly acclaimed art exhibitions on the island of Sylt in Northern Germany.   Sonni’s artistic talents will come in handy as she is already designing a new look for Starboard’s 2018 collection.  It will be exciting to watch this journey unfold.

“I’m very excited to work with a great team of ocean lovers – experts and also perfectionists.”

Sonni, a native German, lives on the island of Sylt and spends a great portion of her time training on Maui and in the Canary Islands, specifically Fuerteventura.
