A BIG step forward into the FUTURE of the sport of standup paddling! The Waterman League hits upon financing to expand it’s World Championship Tour.
Waterman League Steps UP
The Waterman League Group, a well known entity for it’s professional standup paddle world tour series events, has announced it has received investor financing from a private equity firm AID Partners (AID) LLC and Darren Shaw, a Hong Kong based investor. These investments will enable the League to expand it’s existing standup paddle World Championship Tour events.
“We have passionately endeavoured to build the Waterman League with integrity and authenticity” – Tristan Boxford
Tristan Boxford, Chief Executive Officer of the Waterman League said, “Standup paddling is one of the world’s fastest-growing participatory sports and … I am extremely proud to have attracted investors of this caliber and excited to begin working with our new partners to strengthen and expand our business.”
‘An Exciting Competitive Platform’
AID is a leading private equity firm based in Asia with a primary focus in the media, technology and lifestyle sectors. This infusion of new financing, according to Kelvin Wu, Chairman of AID will “help grow the sport of standup paddling in Asia … and increase digital media coverage of the APP World Tour.” The World Tour series has events scheduled for both Japan and China in 2017
“I have been impressed by the Waterman League and what Tristan has achieved with limited resources, “ notes Darren Shaw, the second investor. “He has created an exciting competitive platform and attracted a dynamic group of young athletes for this relatively new sport, highlighting the timely attributes of adopting healthy pursuits, being out in the elements and bringing awareness to our oceans and waterways.”
APP to Host 2017 World Tour
Creating a new organization in conjunction with the new investment, The Waterman League has established the Association of Paddlesurf Professionals (APP). The APP will align the two disciplines of standup paddle racing and standup paddle surfing under a new “APP World Tour” series which will cover 8 events in 2017 in Oahu (Hawaii), Maui (Hawaii), Tokoyo (Japan), Scharbeutz (Germany), New York (NY), San Francisco (CA), Hainan (China) and the Canary Islands (Spain).
