Jason Latham is a sponsored team rider for Jimmy Lewis boards and Ke Nalu paddles.  He prides himself in being the first and only professional sup surfer from the great state of Georgia!  As a waterman, Jason is committed to his relationship to water sports through his work as an instructor and sup coach at Paddle and Putt on St. Simon Island as well as his work as an Environmental Consultant specializing in wetlands delineation.

JLay’s energy, like his surfing, is contagious.  He gives a shout out to his mom for his Samoan roots as his commitment to surfing really took off when he spent three years after high school in Samoa connecting with it’s culture, language, traditions … and surf.

“I had world-class waves oftentimes all by myself and I progressed very fast in the shallow reef breaks and raw Pacific power.”  – Jason Latham

Featured here, Jason is riding his 7’5″ Carbon Super Tech by Jimmy Lewis. The Super Tech is for experienced riders who want the most performance out of their sup surfing game. This is Jason’s go-to board for competition and he achieved great results last season riding it!

Jason Latham 2016:

1st Place Hutchinson Island Pro, Open SUP

Let’s all bring a little JLay into our day and reconnect with those aquatic roots 😉  Thanks for the inspiration, Jimmy Lewis!

Evelyn O'Doherty, editor & publisher of the new Standup Journal 2.0 is a former school teacher gone rogue. She left her career as a teacher in order to spend more time near or on the water after learning to surf turned her life around (upsidedown?). She is a year-round surfer and paddler living on the eastern tip of Long Island in NY who is a certified SUP instructor, seasoned SUP racer and avid longboard surfer. Evelyn was hired as Online Editor to Standup Journal in 2016. Her passion for the project quickly led to her success and eventually taking over the mag herself in Oct. 2018. Today, as editor, publisher and chief bottle washer at Standup Journal, Evelyn keeps her toes wet writing, traveling, paddling, surfing, and learning to foil. You can find her most days paddling out on Gardiner's Bay or surfing Ditch Plains in Montauk, NY.
