Another year in the books for Team WND&WVS

Global Partner

NOBODY has a better time than the team at WND&WVS Surf Shop in Burlington, VT.  From Ali & Rox holding down the retail store, to Kev & Hondo managing the back end of things and Russ – of course – leading the charge with energy, stoke and all things water.

What is WND&WVS?  A surf shop in Vermont.

They started with a sup, wind, kite and surf shop in Burlington, VT.  From there, Team WND&WVS added on that clever Standup for the Lake Sup Race on Lake Champlain.  This stoke fest with a $1000 prize pocket will, on Aug. 4th 2018, become one of the newly formed Paddle League’s regional qualifying events.  The Standup for the Race quickly developed from a one-day event into a waterman’s typhoon festival when Russ began entering any left over paddlers the following day in the Dragon Heart Boat Championships for dragon boat racing.  And they won. The whole championship. Two years in a row now.

Then, came along the Villa Playa Maria, a 9-bedroom luxury private villa right on Maria’s Beach in Rincon, Puerto Rico.  The team’s antics grew and #ChuckWeek was born.  #ChuckWeek is a week long waterman’s boot camp led by GoPro athlete, skier and big wave surfer Chuck Patterson.  For a week every winter, the crew gathers to surf, sup, wind, kite and foil (and snorkel, spearfish and chase albino monkeys) in the waters around Rincon, Puerto Rico.

WND&WVS Burlington Vermont
There is always an adventure on tap with the team at WND&WVS in Burlington, VT. From stand up paddling, to kiteboarding, windsurfing, foiling and surf, these guys (and gals) do it all.

WND&WVS giving back within the community

After the devastation of Hurricanes Irma & Maria, the team went even farther to launch a GoFundMe campaign for the community of Rincon wherein they raised $35,000 to buy 210 cisterns for the local community.  That’s right – 210 cisterns so people in and around the village of Rincon could have clean, safe drinking water.  Chuck & Russ went down there themselves to install all 210.  It took them a week.

Good enough, right?  But wait, there’s MORE.  Next Russ Scully and team invested in the Burlington Surf Club. The BSC is on the south end of the campus that has held the Blodgett Oven Factory.  With long sandy beach and an expansive shady lawn, the BSC offers a convenience and experience of accessing Lake Champlain that is unmatched. Multiple post and beam storage barns are on site to house an extensive line-up of top of the line equipment for paddlers and windsurfers of all levels.  Guests may come for the day and/or purchase season passes to this prime time beach  front along Lake Champlain’s beautiful shoreline.  Open in June 2018!  Get lined up.

So, here’s the recap video (above) of Team WND&WVS 2017 spring, summer, fall and winter season.  Keep your eye on them.  If you can.

She is a year-round surfer and paddler living on the eastern tip of Long Island in NY who is a certified SUP instructor, seasoned SUP racer and avid longboard surfer. Evelyn was hired as Online Editor to Standup Journal in 2016. Her passion for the project quickly led to her success and eventually taking over the mag herself in Oct. 2018. Today, as editor, publisher and chief bottle washer at Standup Journal, Evelyn keeps her toes wet writing, traveling, paddling, surfing, and learning to foil. You can find her most days paddling out on Gardiner's Bay or surfing Ditch Plains in Montauk, NY.
