Standup Journal Online is building a platform specifically for women paddlers. It is a place where we can go and research information, ask questions, hear about women’s events (like Standup for the Cure) and more.

We seek to celebrate the women in this great sport: the mothers, the athletes, the passionate paddlers who love what they do. We hope to inspire you to bring other women and children out onto the water and share with them the exquisite experience of being in nature.

Our platform includes gear talk specifically for gals. Check out our online Forum: Standup for Women here. And, it highlights events wherein women come together to make something great happen. Like Standup for the Cure. Read on below and be inspired…

Celebrate Standup for the Cure & Celebrate Women

Standup for the Cure is a nationwide movement that builds a compassionate, empathetic,  community in order to foster a healthy lifestyle for women.  The multi-pronged event raises both money and awareness for early breast cancer detection, research, treatment and education.

Standup for the Cure is more than a paddling event.  It has become a movement since 2012.  Over the past 5 years, SUFTC has been uniting all paddlers, fitness enthusiasts, yogis (both teachers and practictioners) as well as the breast cancer community from California to Florida, Michigan to Washington.

Standup for the Cure:  Where do donations go?

To date, SUFTC has raised over $1,030,000.00 for community screening programs and regional events have screened over 800 event participants on site thanks to dedicated medical partners.

Donations go to Susan G Komen for the Cure and awards are granted to local non-profits that focus on breast health including treatment and screening for the uninsured or underinsured. Fundraising efforts also contribute to psychosocial support services and education for women with breast health issues.

All SUFTC events offer professional paddling instruction on site, racing, a health and fitness expo, delicious food, FREE breast cancer and melanoma screening and live music.

Evelyn O'Doherty, editor & publisher of the new Standup Journal 2.0 is a former school teacher gone rogue. She left her career as a teacher in order to spend more time near or on the water after learning to surf turned her life around (upsidedown?). She is a year-round surfer and paddler living on the eastern tip of Long Island in NY who is a certified SUP instructor, seasoned SUP racer and avid longboard surfer. Evelyn was hired as Online Editor to Standup Journal in 2016. Her passion for the project quickly led to her success and eventually taking over the mag herself in Oct. 2018. Today, as editor, publisher and chief bottle washer at Standup Journal, Evelyn keeps her toes wet writing, traveling, paddling, surfing, and learning to foil. You can find her most days paddling out on Gardiner's Bay or surfing Ditch Plains in Montauk, NY.
