Yoga for Paddling, by Anna Levesque is a great journey into longevity and health for stand up paddlers.  Including 30-35 anatomically correct stretches to help release tension in the muscles most used by paddlers and to strengthen the ones we tend to overlook, Yoga for Paddling is the how-to guide for fitness in summer paddling.

Anna Levesque is a leading expert in kayaking for women and yoga for paddling.  Named as one of the most inspirational paddlers alive by Canoe and Kayak magazine, she has been featured in Time, Shape and Self magazines.

The book offers a focus in yoga anatomy and alignment for canoeists, kayakers and stand up paddlers as well as offering tips on proper paddling technique, performance focus, relaxation and short stories about paddling injuries healed through yoga.  With a photo or two to demonstrate every pose, Yoga for Paddling also incorporates key points of alignment to help you get into and hold each pose safely.

Anna is an American Canoe Association (ACA) whitewater kayak instructor trainer, stand up paddleboard instructor trainer, and a 500-hour RYT (500 hour Registered Yoga Teacher) with Yoga Alliance.   She is a Level 4 ACA white water kayak instructor trainer, a Level 5 ACA whitewater kayak instructor, a Level 2 certified ACA stand up paddleboard instructor trainer, an ACA Sup Yoga teacher trainer, and a member of the ACA Sup Standards Committee.  As an athlete, Anna was a member of the Canadian freestyle whitewater kayak team from 1999 to 2003 and earned a bronze medal at the Freestyle World Kayak Championships in 2001.

I think that qualifies her to write the book, yes?  Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy and dive IN into this summer with a practice of Yoga for Paddling.  Thanks, BIC Sup!

Evelyn O'Doherty, editor & publisher of the new Standup Journal 2.0 is a former school teacher gone rogue. She left her career as a teacher in order to spend more time near or on the water after learning to surf turned her life around (upsidedown?). She is a year-round surfer and paddler living on the eastern tip of Long Island in NY who is a certified SUP instructor, seasoned SUP racer and avid longboard surfer.
