It’s no secret that Mother Nature can help heal.  Add in movement or exercise and the benefits grow.  New studies have shown that outdoor activity can aid in recovery from disease, reduction of stress, increases in concentration, and improve overall health and well being.

BIC Sup’s powerhouse ambassador, Casi Rynkowski, is taking that study to a whole new level with her Paddle for Recovery program, helping cancer patients and their caregivers get out on the water to feel the healing effects of Mother Nature.

Paddle for Recovery, sponsored by BIC Sup, is designed to support the recovery process in cancer patients.

Paddle for Recovery is a FREE standup paddle class for recovering cancer patients and a friend or family member who supported them through treatment.  As many of us know, cancer – when it strikes – can have devastating effects on both the individual as well as their family.  Casi Rynkowski, BIC Sup ambassador, knows from her own personal experience how families, friends, and acquaintances take on this disease and how it can impact lives forever.

Paddle for Recovery is Casi’s personal mission to provide opportunities to individuals undergoing treatment and their caregivers to escape on to the water and -she hopes – to bring them to a new passion that can assist in the individual’s daily recovery.

Evelyn O'Doherty, editor & publisher of the new Standup Journal 2.0 is a former school teacher gone rogue. She left her career as a teacher in order to spend more time near or on the water after learning to surf turned her life around (upsidedown?). She is a year-round surfer and paddler living on the eastern tip of Long Island in NY who is a certified SUP instructor, seasoned SUP racer and avid longboard surfer. Evelyn was hired as Online Editor to Standup Journal in 2016. Her passion for the project quickly led to her success and eventually taking over the mag herself in Oct. 2018. Today, as editor, publisher and chief bottle washer at Standup Journal, Evelyn keeps her toes wet writing, traveling, paddling, surfing, and learning to foil. You can find her most days paddling out on Gardiner's Bay or surfing Ditch Plains in Montauk, NY.
