Waterman Ken Hoeve (aka Hobie) takes a standup paddle run on the Eagle River in Wolcott, Colorado last spring.

Running the rapids is no big thing for ‘yaker turned sup-er star, Ken Hoeve. His skills as a camera man and standup paddler give us this bird’s eye view.

“This photo really shares what it is to paddle a river in the mountains on an standup. The rugged terrain combined with the rustic feeling the bridge gives shows viewers a glimpse at what it’s like to run a river and rapid on a board.”  – Ken Hoeve

Ken Hoeve has mad skills.  He sent in this photo to Standup Journal to share his experience of what it is like to sup some whitewater AND he managed to take the photo himself.  Our bird’s eye view is achieved by clamping Ken’s GoPro to the bridge and setting the timer to fire every half a second.  The result?  Giving US the experience of standup paddling the rapids in Colorado’s Eagle River.

Ken’s choice of board is his Jackson SUPerCharger. This river sup is a rotomolded plastic standup board designed specifically for whitewater.  Ken teamed up with Jackson designer, Tony Lee, and assisted in the release of three boards from Jackson Kayaks including the SUPerCharger (river runner), SUPer Natural (rec and touring) and the SUPerFishal (fishing sup).  Hoeve grabbed the SUPerCharger for this sweet shot because, as he says, the board is both durable and stable for river standup paddling.
