Monday morning kicked off with glassy conditions as the Men’s and Women’s Repechage took to the water in a field of international competitors looking to keep their dreams of winning the Gold Medal alive in these elimination rounds.

For the women, Australia’s Shakira Westdorp bought in the highest heat score of the day with a 10.83. On the men’s side, France’s Jeremy Massiere was the standout performer, earning the highest male heat total of 14.38. Massiere dominated through two rounds of Repechage to earn the right surf on the anticipated final day.

In the Women’s Main Event which followed, the Semifinalists were decided. Japan’s Yuka Horikoshi, USA’s Izzi Gomez, Tahiti’s Karelle Popkke, and Peru’s Brissa Malaga finished in the top two positions required to advance to the next step towards the Grand Final.

Team Hawaii captain, Matty Schweitzer, was in agreement with the event’s decision to move the final to Saturday and the swell. “This event being in Fiji makes it groundbreaking for the sport. I have been waiting a long time for a competition like this to come to Cloudbreak and we are excited to be able to show the world how extreme StandUp Paddling can be in bigger surf.”

Get ready for the BIG event this Saturday! And stay tuned for both the technical races and distance paddle races as well as the SUP surfing semi-finals on Wednesday through Friday of this week.
