When was the last time you went to a meeting and the presenters held your total attention for 6 hours straight?

Not a problem here on a warm sunny Fall day in San Diego California. After a fun evening of Sup Polo and fun demos, bright and early this fine morning Starboard’s founder & president Svein Rasmussen called on his troops to deliver the message that the sup industry has all got to go green… and we have got to do it soon.

Starboard President Calls On Sup Industry To Go Green NowNo longer can we wait for our mother earth to heal herself. No longer can we let the other person clean up after us. No longer can we teach our children anything other than the greatest respect for our watery playgrounds. For Starboard, one of the ways it will start will be with the elimination of plastic in the shipping process.

Building on that momentum and joining in eco partnerships around the globe, they intend to show by example just what can be done and what goals can be set and met.

The Bio Concept Board project should not be such a shock coming from such a forward thinking company but it really drew a great response from the crowd at this week’s Starboard dealer meeting in San Diego. While it has a ways to go to meet customer expectations it has made huge leaps in the realm of sustainable sup – a phrase that will soon be common language on a body of water near you.

As part of the forum, Standup Journal‘s own co-founder Steve Sjuggerud talked about the need to continue developing performance boards for the guys and gals like us: Real World wave riders! His talk even had Zane Schweitzer doing a backflip on stage!

Of course, no design forum would be complete without a look a the latest in foils. Zane and Connor Baxter were both there to talk about their work on riding bumps and waves on salt and fresh water.

Watch for my news from San Diego, and photos and MUCH more shortly!
