In this episode of Facing Waves, stand up paddle pro Nikki Gregg is in the Ottawa Valley where the ICF World Kayaking Championships are taking place.  While over 200 competitors from 30 countries battle it out on Garburator wave, Nikki and sup river pro Luke Hopkins decide to put their sup skills to the ultimate test on one of Ottawa River’s world renowned white water sections.

Up first is McCoy rapid which is the biggest rapid on the run at Class 3 with some pretty big hydraulic action and is a very technical to maneuver.

Running river on a stand up paddle board takes a lot more balance, coordination and muscles than if you are using a kayak, so it’s a great way to improve balance and get stronger all around!

Another awesome part of river sup’ing is that you can ride endless waves!  Find the right wave to hope on and you can go as long as you want working on your technique and having a blast in the process.
