Kalamalka Lake, BC – Organizers of the Kalamalka Classic Standup Paddleboard Festival are stoked to announce the schedule for this year’s annual SUP Festival. Saturday’s events are even more spectator friendly with short courses for adults and kids and a new Team Relay.

Sunday’s Kalamalka Crossing, the 10-mile trek across the length of the lake, is regarded as one of the most popular events in the country. From it’s humble beginnings, the ‘Classic’ as grown to be the largest festival of it’s kind in Canada and is expected to draw over 200 paddlers from across North America. This year’s ambassador is current World Champion and 3-Time Queen of Kalamalka, Lina Augaitis.

Now in it’s 5th year, the event is designed to encourage local participation, whether it’s a fun short course, Team Relay, or even the Kalamalka Crossing – the marquee event that ends up on the top of many paddlers bucket lists. “It has a competitive element with the crowing of the King and Queen of Kalamalka, but it’s more about getting everyone in the family involved, whether it be a recreational paddle, kids race, or a chance to cross the full length of Kal Lake”, said Kevin O’Brien, the event’s Race Director. “And did we say that we are giving away 2 Paddleboards as prizes this year” he added.

The Events include:
1. The Eagle Dash Recreational Race – a short 2 mile ‘social’ race for new paddlers to get their feet wet. A great chance to get involved in the festival and get some exercise. Do it solo or with a partner!
2. WikiHolo – An exciting event that includes a Le Mans-Style beach start, around a buoy-riddled course and back to the beach for a short beach run… and another lap. Great for spectators and paddlers alike.
3. KeikiHolo – Same as the Wikiholo but for all kids 13 years and under. The kids get to do a pre-race clinic with World Champion, Lina Augaitis, followed by their own race. Medals for top three, t-shirts for all
4. Naish N1SCO Team Relay – A great chance for everyone to get into the action. Teams of 4 will compete head-to-head around a short course for prizes and fun.
5. Sunday’s marquee event is the 5th annual Kalamalka Crossing – A 10 mile scenic trek across the full length of Kalamalka Lake from Oyama to Kalamalka Beach – Do it for the exercise, for the challenge, or race it to beat the clock.

The Kal Classic is supported by Tourism Vernon and presented by Naish and Kalavida Surf Shop with support from Quickblade Paddles, Werner Paddles, Reef, Rip Curl, FCS and Dakine.

Proceeds from the event go to support SPKL – The Society for the Protection of Kalamalka Lake. Their efforts help preserve the health of Vernon’s drinking water and create awareness for our amazing lake – Keep Kal Lake Blue.
