Santa Cruz, CA (May 23, 2012) – Surftech’s team of athletes is perhaps the most impressive group of male and female paddlers in the sport today. Waikiki, HI – (May 4-5, 2012) The event featured the “Survivor SUP Race” which is a new racing format designed by Surftech and Quiksilver team rider Jamie Mitchell. “The Survivor format is exciting because it’s fast paced and competitors need to be strategic in their approach to each heat” said Mitchell.  Surftech team riders Jamie Mitchell and Candice Appleby both reached the Survivor Race final and battled hard for eventual 3rd place finishes.

The Surftech International team made the most of the weekends events by competing in virtually every race of the two day festival.

Dana Point, CA – (April 28, 2012) The Watermans Applied Science Paddle for Humanity started as grass roots paddling event in 2009 as a way to bring the paddling community together in support of a common cause. Since that time the race has grown to become the largest national paddling series and has raised thousands of dollars for its non- profit partners. For 2012, the Paddle for Humanity is expanding to five events, including Dana Point, CA , Deerfield Beach FL, Washington DC , Lake Tahoe, CA and Austin, TX.

Surftech team riders Alison Riddle and Micha Shaw took advantage of the opportunity to race and tune up for their busy up-coming race season.

Wrightsville Beach, NC – (April 28-29) To kick off the 2012 season, the Wrightsville Beach Paddle Club organized the Carolina Cup, a non-profit race with 4 courses: a kids race, a recreational fun race, an open race and an elite race. The event raises money for Surfers Healing, the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue Hospital in Topsail Island, NC and Athletes 4 Cancer.

Santa Cruz, CA. – (May 19, 2012) The 3rd annual Santa Cruz Downwind Ryders Cup paddleboard race, presented by Quiksilver Waterman Collection, is a 14 mile race that takes paddlers down the rugged coastline of northern Santa Cruz County. Fifteen to twenty-five knot winds are common on this world-class downwind course from Davenport Landing to Main Beach (adjacent to SC Wharf).

Surftech/Bark team riders dominated in the near perfect downwind conditions along the wild coast north of Santa Cruz last Saturday. Winds were clocking in at a steady 20 – 25kts for almost the entire 14 mile course.

As busy has the early race season has been for team Surftech, things don’t get any slower in the coming months!Below are just a few upcoming events you’ll find the Surftech team participating in this season.Kanesa Duncan-Seraphin is paddling in and helping organize the Paddle for George, May 25th on the North Shore of Oahu. The race is a fund raiser for North Shore paddling pioneer, George Ramos and runs from Sunset Beach to Waimea Bay.Matt Becker is off to Tahiti this week for the Sapinus Pro, Tahiti ~ May 26th to June 3rd

Jamie Mitchell is off to Fiji to work the water patrol for the Volcom Fiji Pro WCT Surf event. After that he’s back to Maui to train and plans to compete in the Triple Crown of Stand Up Paddle on Maui in July.

Morgan Hoesterey will be meeting up with Surftech teammates Ken “Hobie” Hoeveand Kerri Stewart for the Teva Mountain Games in Vail, Colorado.

Candice Appleby is coaching the next generation of SUP athletes in her Performance Paddling clinics. Race wise, she will be racing in the Hennessey US ChampionshipsJune 2nd, Santa Monica Pier Race June 9th, National SUP Day June 10th, Rock 2 Rock June 17th, Jay Race June 23rd, Race the Lake of the Sky June 30th.

Team Surftech will once again converge on the west cost for the 11th Annual Surftech Jay Race on June 23rd in Santa Cruz, CA.
